Training Sessions

At present we have a choice of nine sessions per week including road running, hill reps, track & circuit training. The Sunday morning sessions are regularly depleted by official races and tend to be organised either by word-of-mouth or on the members-only Website Forum..

Note on groups and suitability.

Beginners to running.  We suggest that anyone beginning running joins us in April for the Beginners Course.  This provides the preparation needed to be comfortable in the steady group.  Below are some very rough guides to the aims of each group.

Steady Group -    5 or 6 miles in around 1 hour 15 minutes
Intermediate Group 1 -    7 or 8 miles in around 1 hour 15 minutes
Intermediate Group 2 -    8 or 9 miles in around 1 hour  15 minutes
Fast Group -   anyone see where they went?

Monday 6:45pm

Heath Rugby Club, West Vale. This is an unofficial training night for the club and there's no guarantee that there will be any group leaders. The reason is members treat Monday as a recovery day after competing in races at the weekend.  Numbers dwindle in the Winter months but pick up, especially after the annual Beginner's Course  -  click here for map.

Circuit training at Crossley Heath School in the sports hall.  Lasts one hour and costs £3.

Tuesday 6.45pm

Speed training at Spring Hall Athletics Track on Huddersfield Road, Halifax.  Modern, floodlit facility paid for by you as tax payers and Stainland Lions members - we contributed £1000 towards this facility.  Our own coaches in attendance.  £2.50 per session - please bring exact change if possible.

Here are links to a couple of useful documents put together by two of our coaches.  The first is the summer training 2010 program created to improve your speed & stamina and aimed specifically at 10k race distance with target races, timed miles and running analysis.  Second link takes you to Gav's track page which includes lots of useful information about track training and a log of past sessions.
