Stainland Lions Running Club of Halifax is a well established group of runners spanning all levels of ability.  At the end of January 2008 our membership exceeds 300, 65% of whom are female and with an age range of under 20's to over 70's.  Our training covers everything from general fitness to triathlons. Our activities include road running, trails, cross-country, fell racing and most important of all; our legendary social scene - this is the reason we are known as the drinking club with a running problem!  If you have never run before then this is a great place to start, or if you can run a sub 3 hour marathon we have athletes & coaches you can train with.  You don't have to be ready for the elite section to join us. It doesn't matter to us if you're a 5 minute miler, an 11 minute miler, or a complete beginner. All our members have one thing in common - we all love to run and socialise.
Every year, starting in April we hold a free, eight-week
Beginners course.  This is ideal for anyone who has never run before and would like to try their feet (as opposed to hand) at the sport, or as is frequently the case, people who have had a break from running but are ready to rejoin the masses.  The course is very popular and we have fully trained coaches on hand to advise & assist.  Over 100 beginners took up the course in 2007.
We currently have a choice of five training days a week
including road running, hill reps, track & circuit training.  Tuesdays at Savile Park Moor and our main club gathering on Thursdays at Heath Rugby club are especially suitable for new runners.  Please check the Training page for full details and maps.
Feel free to come along to any of our training sessions for a few weeks without obligation.  Make yourself known to someone that you are new and we'll do the rest.  We will assess your ability, make sure you are looked after, placed with a group to suit your needs and not left behind.  After a few weeks you might like to consider becoming a member.  For a small annual fee you get significant discounts on purchases at local retailers and race entry fees, a regular newsletter, full access to our comprehensive website, qualified coaching  and entry into the draw for our London Marathon club places - subject to T&C.  In addition, you will then find out why we are the friendliest running club in Yorkshire.  It's official - just ask our competitors!
