We now have 78 names for the 2008 Grand Prix, so it promises
to be even bigger than last year. It's nice to see a
lot of new members to the club have entered for next year.
Many of you have made very welcome suggestions for next
years races. I have tried to incorporate as many of these as
possible, & also taken out a couple of races that people do
not like. The result is a mixture of road & trail. The
distances vary from 5K (Littleborough) to 14.3 Miles (Dent).
The terrain also varies from flat (Dewsbury 10K), to very
hilly (Pudsey 10K). I have also made sure that some of the
races are midweek. The midweek one's tend to be closer to
home. There is a slight change this year in that there
will be 2 "second chance" races. This has come about for 2
reasons; firstly to incorporate more of the races suggested
by the club & secondly to allow runners a second go at a
similar race. See the example below.
Race 1 - Dewsbury 10K - Flat
Race 2 - Wakefield 10K - Flat
You can run either race or both races, however only your
fastest time will count. Useful if you can't make 1 of the
races because of other commitments or if you are recovering
from injury etc.
This years winter handicap will operate slightly
differently. Competitors will still be asked to guess their
time, as in previous years. The winner of the handicap
competition will be the runner who is closest to that time.
However, for Grand Prix purposes, the winner will be the
person who is in first place in terms of their finishing
time. Runners will not be able to simply take it easy
to get close to their estimated time. I've done this myself
for the last 2 years, & done dismally on both occassions. In
fact I got lost in 1 of the races & finished last!
Please note that the Dewsbury 10K in February is likely to
fill up quickly, so book early. Also I am assurred
that the Ron Hill 5K in September will be booked up early
this year. It is Ron Hill's 70th birthday. Note that
as in previous years points from your top eight races will
count towards your overall total. Regards Mark. |
